In what order should I build up a belt set-up?
Start with the belt and feel where your hands naturally fall. Place what you need fastest — tourniquet, knife, gloves — within reach of both hands, and what you rarely use furthest back. Only add pouches once the placement feels right, otherwise you will end up rebuilding everything a second time.
Do Snigel pouches fit other brands?
The pouches attach to MOLLE or PALS webbing, which is the same grid on virtually all modular load-carrying equipment. What differs is the weave and the density — a stiff vest offers more resistance and takes more force when mounting. Check the number of webbing rows against the back of the pouch before you order.
What should go in the admin pouch?
A notebook, pen, casualty cards, ID and whatever needs to be reachable without opening the backpack. Snigel notebook covers come in formats that match Modestone notebooks, so the paper does not get folded. Keep the pouch slim — one that gets filled up becomes a bag within the bag and stops being used.
How often should the equipment be checked?
At least once a season, and always after a real incident. Check the batteries in penlights, that the packaging of the rescue blankets is intact, that hook-and-loop fasteners and buckles are not clogged with lint, and that whatever you used has actually been replaced. It is always the consumables that are missing next time.
