The self-inflating bag is made from silicone and returns to its shape immediately after compression — no external airflow is required for ventilation with room air. When oxygen is available, the included reservoir can be connected, enabling an FiO₂ of up to 95 percent at a flow rate of 15 litres per minute. The safety valve opens at 40 cmH₂O and prevents excessive ventilation pressure that could cause gastric insufflation or pneumothorax. The mask is made from transparent silicone, making it possible to detect vomit or condensation quickly.

LSR can be autoclaved at 134 °C for three minutes up to 50 times, making the system reusable after adequate cleaning.
